hooper straight lighthouse

lighthouse #3

i love laura. i love that we are the same kind of ligthouse nerd, we both like to pack it in and get the most bang for our buck. so we decided that instead of doing just the 10 lighthouses on the challenge, we were going to do all the maryland lighthouses. we worked for hours to map out the best strategy, look up directions, find the perfect hotel, and plan the best trip.

the lighthouse challenge lights opened at 10 on friday, so we planned to leave early enough that we could stop and see sandy point (check!) and still make it all the way down to st michaels on the eastern shore by 10. and we did it too. traveling without kiddos is so fast!

when we got there we were delighted to find a whole table of fun lighthouse enthusiasts all excited for us to be there. we were their first challengers. yup, we started the whole lighthouse challenge because we are just that bad action.
because we were the first challengers we got to pick from a box of lighthouse paraphernalia. laura picked a flag and notebook and i picked a christmas ornament. awww, yeah!
this lighthouse is part of a maritime museum and also on display is the bell tower from the point lookout lighthouse, all the way south of where we live! i wonder how it got there!
another cute little lost light. :(
they had the lighthouse all decorated for the period. laura did some duck hunting while we were there. you know laura and her duck hunting all the time!
back in the day the bay was covered with ligthhouses! they were everywhere. so cool!

we walked into a bedroom and saw this guy immediately to our right. we both did a double take because it looked like a real person! those crazy lighthouse shenanigans. ;)
laura always likes to get a shot of the stairs.

they are beautiful and always just a little bit different.
in the lantern room with the beautiful views.
we asked somebody to take this crooked picture of us. :)
and i took this to illustrate the other groups of people that run in many lighthouse circles.
good thing we like old people. :)
