on our walk over to the lightship we saw this big guy.
we checked it out and it is the "uscgc (united states coast guard cutter) taney - the last survivor of pear harbor." since my grandpa seagrove was a pearl harbor survivor, i had to get a pic. :)
we got to the lightship about 15 minutes before they opened, but this very friendly lighthouse volunteer (whose name, along with all the others, i've forgotten) asked if we were doing the challenge and invited us to come aboard. lighthousers are so sweet. :)
this is the light part of the lightship.
our lighthouse buddy was very informative and nice. i don't exactly remember a lot of what he said, but it was good stuff. :)
we very quickly toured the ship. we were on another tight schedule so we had to time to waste.
we said goodbye to our new buddy and promised him we'd join the chesapeak chapter of lighthouses, which we really did have every intention of doing... but then never did. maybe next time...
and we've seen our first lightship!
