craighill channel upper rear and craighill challen upper front

#6 + #7

after our sketchy experience viewing the fort carroll light, we headed into dundalk to try to glimpse the craighill channel lights. our first attempt was the craighill channel upper rear. we had directions from lighthouse friends, but those took us to a steel mill complete with a security guarded gate that refused access. and they said even if we could get on, they have a strict no photos allowed policy. and they were not friendly about it.

undaunted, we just knew there had to be a way to see it! we looked at our maps and drove around a little bit. we finally drove across the water from the steel mill and into a boat yard (lots of trespassing was done that weekend!). we walked around and then were like, wait, is that it?

it doesn't look much like a lighthouse anyway, and from across the water it was really hard to tell. but we got out laura's binoculars and sure enough, the tallest tower over there was the light!

we found you, poor forgotten light! as if being a lighthouser wasn't cool enough, lighthousing with binoculars? the coolest!

really, steel mill? no pictures? ha! that's what i say to your 'no pictures on our property' rule!

much like earlier that morning, we were admiring one light, looked around, and found another lighthouse!

after our super successful day, even in the face of some setbacks, we were feeling pretty good about being able to find the rest of our lighthouses. the ccuf light is best viewed from a va medical center on fort howard. no problem! we both have military access. unfortunately, they close the gate at 5, and even though we got there at 4:45 and assured the very angry at the world gate guard that we would be done by 5, he wouldn't allow us onto the base. we gave him our whole innocent sob story and he wouldn't budge. and then he said even if we could get on, we couldn't take any pictures since it's on federal property. so that one picture of the lighthouse across the water was as close as we got to this little guy. when we charter our boat we will get fabulous pictures fo sho.
