sandy hook, nj - lighthouse #15

1st challenge light!!!
the sandy hook lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse that is still standing in the united states (1764). she is an amazing thing! this was also our first official challenge light, so she was doubly exciting!
we got there at 10am and they had already had 400 people come through! their shirts were almost sold out, so we bought up 3 shirts supah fast.
quick visit to the ladies room. love.it.
they were only letting a certain number of people up at a time, so we had a wait, and it was also one of the first lights that there were actually people at, so we got some pictures of the group. i don't know what i'm doing, but i'm always game for a silly pic. :)
fuuuuun!
i love when people dress up! makes it that much better. :)
it was finally climbing time! just look at how thick that wall is! this bad boy has held strong throughout centuries of hurricanes and wars. during the revolutionary war the british even tried to take her down by cannon fire, but after an hour they gave up on it. this is a strong chic!!!

from the top we could see romer shoal and west bank lighthouses, which we had also seen the day before from elm tree. i'm always fascinated (and surprised!) when things like that come together from across waters. i should pay more attention to the overall map picture. :)
happiness is light housing with good friends. even when it's stressful.
(blogging all of this is making me super lighthouse hungry!)
m - 1st lighthouse climbed with a nautical rope all the way up instead of a rail.
(can't believe we didn't get a picture of it!)
s - fresnel lens, saw romer shoal and west bank, loved the keeper dressed up
l - small and cute, but too many people and too long a line
window love.
 doorway love.
the crowds made us even more antsy to stick to our schedule. but, duh, duh, duh… we were already behind schedule by our 3rd light of the day.
