great beds, nj - lighthouse #1

we started early, probably around 5am, friday, october 17. it was 4 months ago, so my memory isn't the greatest. :/ we had brought lots of snacks - of course laura baked muffins and breads, but also candies and energy foods like jerky and nuts. we were at least well prepared in the food category. :)

we made good time all the way up to staten island. our first light of the weekend was great beds (which was named for the great beds of oysters in these shallow waters) lighthouse, which we saw from the conference house at the southern tip of staten island.
the park was gorgeous and so was the weather on our weekend. it was a tad chilly, but mostly really comfortable and nice. i loved this beautiful lane we had to walk down to get to the beach, it was so quaint. i would love to live near someplace like this and be able to run this every day.
add the cute light post (straight out of narnia) to the sweet lane and fuggedaboutit. shell love it.
this was our weekend, rush, rush, rush!
i am very good at staying on track and being in a hurry. my life is lived in a hurry and i need to work on slowing down, so keeping track of when we should leave and how long we could stay was right up my alley. we had totally mapped out our days and what time we needed to get to each light, and how long we could stay. our schedule was air tight! no wiggle room! (that got very old as the weekend wore on)
she's so pretty! just a cute little light out there.
happy lighthousers!!!
we would looooove to see the inside of these sweet water lights, all lonely out there in the water. we'd gladly give them some love!
there was this funny random pole out there that we nicknamed 'south pole,' so shelly decided to hug it. or something. ;) what's a girl to do?
shelly had the idea that we should write down our first thoughts on each light and i'm so glad she did! here's what we each said about this cutie:

l - "beautiful, quiet, peaceful town."
m - "smells good, tons of sea shells and sea glass, and we loved the 'south pole.'
s - "first light and the race is on!"
