Old plantation flats lighthouse

Laura and I have been talking about camping on the eastern shore for ages and ages. We finally picked a day, and even though Chris couldn't come and it was crazy inconvienent and busy, we made it happen. And just like usually happens in cases like this, it was so fun!

Neither one of our families had been camping for many, many years, so it was sure to be an adventure! We loaded up the (borrowed) trailer Wednesday night, and Thursday morning the non-workers (+David) were off! First we stopped at the Walmart in Virginia. An hour and quite a few $$$ later, and we were on our way again.

David and all his lad-ays!
Addie chillin' as we loaded up after the Wally run.
We asked if she'd like to travel back there, but she said no. (;
We went the longer southern route so we could see this guy!
This beauty is the old plantation flats replica lighthouse, and she was a tough one to see!
Us crazy lighthousers are not easily deterred though.
This lighthouse was built in a luxury subdivision of homes. there has been some drama associated with the subdivision and it was never completed (all of the homes). They recently settled a lawsuit regarding $$$ and the lighthouse.

 So when we called to ask if we could see the light, they very shortly told us that they (the real estate office) no longer owned the lighthouse and it was not available to be seen. She was like a robot, every question I asked, she would just repeat "we no longer own the lighthouse and it is not available to be seen." So frustrating!
We decided that it was a least worth a try to go see it. When we got there though, we realized it was in a gated community so we waited outside the gate for a second and then the guard let us in! I don't know how or why, maybe we were supposed to go talk to him, who knows, but we were in! we hightailed it to the light!

There was a piece of wood blocking the ramp up to the light, but our lighthousing knows no bounds. (;
We walked all the way around, and just because I was feeling fiesty, I tried each of the doors. It killed me, because the last one was unlocked!!! It was like an invitation. An invitation that Laura wouldn't let me open. :( she said she drew the line at trespassing and she didn't want to be caught breaking and entering. I guess
I will never understand why someone, or some group, would go to all the trouble and expense to build a replica light, and then make it non-accessible! Frustrating.
Like a stick is gonna stop us? /: I'm a big talker, but I was nervous on the inside. (:
Beautiful little beach!!!
Love this lighthousing buddy that is willing to break the law with me. (;
After that light we headed to our campground. It wasn't supposed to be that long, but all of our stops made for a pretty long day on the road!

David sat in the back for awhile and took these pictures of laney putting animal crackers in between her toes.
And then eating them.
Cause she's awesome.

A few years ago they auctioned it off. You could have put in a bid. Warner Athey
