Assateague lighthouse

The worker truck (the people that had to stay and work on Thursday - Matt, Alexis, josh, and joseph - he just stayed cause we didn't have enough seats) rolled up after 9. They got caught in a couple of storms, and brought the rain with them.

That night it unexpectedly rained. I had set the 6 sleeping bags up around the tent earlier that day, and hadn't noticed any holes anywhere. Well that night poor Frankie woke up drenched! There was one little hole right above gher sleeping bag and that poor baby girl got dripped on for hours before it finally woke her up. Her sleeping bag, pillow, and all of her blankets were so soaked through they took all day to dry. What are the odds?!

That was the only real mishap that first night of camping. Oh, and that josh and Joseph slept in the truck. It got hot, so they rolled down the windows, but then the Mosquitos attacked, (the Mosquitos there were the worst I've ever experienced!) so they were pretty miserable. And from all accounts pretty loud, although they didn't bother me at all. I slept like a baby! I didn't even wake up when Frankie came to us wet and cold - Matt took care of her. Mama was tired!

Friday morning we got up semi early - as campers do, and had cold cereal for breakfast. We could see the assateague lighthouse across the water from us, and Laura and I were itching to go!

This lighthouse is special not only because it's one of the only climbing lights in Virginia, but also because it is the last virginia lighthouse we needed to complete the whole state. We've seen every lighthouse in Virginia! That is the first state we've completed and we were pretty stoked!

Isn't she purty?!
I loved the windows and the arches over each of them! I took more pics with my nice camera, I just need to download them. :/
Top'o'the world to ya!
We love the winding staircases too. Okay, we love everything.
Not sure what the spot on ma boob is, but whatevs.
Our families were not so happy with us when we came down, and we were reminded very quickly why we don't take the crew lighthousing with us. Even the menfolk asked what had taken us so long. I guess between the pictures, chatting with others, pictures, oohing and ahhing, pictures, and just generally taking it all in, we do spend a long time.

Meanwhile they went to the top and back down again, and we're getting massacred by mosquitos. If it was bad at our campground, the mossy swampiness near the lighthouse was 10 times worse and the Mosquitos (not sure why it keeps insisting on capitalizing that word, but oh well) were relentless!

After spending forever at the lighthouse, we hit the beach!
Everyone loves the beach!
Kids and sunbathers alike. (:
The boys sat in a triangle and started throwing sand at eachother. Laney was all like "oh, we're throwing sand? I'm all over it!"
She was so funny! She had been reprimanded for throwing sand all day, so with a free license to throw she was in heaven!
We buried each other and generally frolicked all day.

It was great!
Laney partied so hard that she came to sit with me and eat some chippies and promptly fell asleep.
Chips on her chest and all.
I think all the teens and adults napped that day. I was still on the tail end of a vicious mucus producing cold, and wasn't feeling super great. I didn't even spend much time in the water, which is killer for a beach lover like myself. Good thing that sitting on the beach is almost as good as playing in the waves.
Not sure what this picture was about, but I'm pretty sure it was on account of her spending too much time sunbathing and getting a pretty decent sunburn. And a good old fashioned teen photo dodge.
There was a super moon that night, doesn't it translate so nicely to iPhone picture?
Laura and I brought way too much food camping, but for some reason we didn't pack much of it for the beach, so we were all pretty hungry for dinner, which was... hamburgers and hotdogs Thursday night, and I can't remember Friday night. But the s'mores were delicous!

Day one of camping was a success!
