mother's day trip - roanoke river lighthouse, edenton #12

the last lighthouse we had planned to see was the roanoke river lighthouse in edenton. this was one of the originals that the previous 2 replica's were built to emulate.

there were 2 lighthouses that stood where this guy used to - the first was damaged by fire, the second by ice. it stood out in the water of the river for many years until someone bought it and tried to move it. it ended up slipping off the barge and into the croatan sound. after that the owner sold it to his friend, an eccentric man named emmitt wiggins. emmitt bought it, successfully moved it, and lived in it until his death.

after this and that, the town of edenton finally gained possession of the lighthouse and it is currently being renovated.

which might mean another trip down there for us to climb her. :)
another installment in our series of lighthouse selfie's.
oops...

 ...not quite.
 ... and we've got a winner!

as we were walking back to our car and discussing lunch options, we got another one of those feelings (probs the ghost of emmitt himself) and meandered into a really cool old house/museum.
aren't we so proper!
 see how regal i am?
i wasn't so regal when i went to go pay for my lighthouse magnet and found that, not only did this cute little house offer a lighthouse stamp, (imperative for lighthouse passport holder ((nerds!!!)) like us) but also carried lighthouse passports! i yelled - "they have stamps and passports!!!" poor darlaina had been looking for a passport since shelly had bought the last one on the shelf at oak island - our very 1st lighthouse, 11 lighthouses ago! no one had any in stock! until our very last lighthouse, of course! so figures!!! she had gotten stamps at every lighthouse (yes, i am getting paid for every time i use the word 'lighthouse.' lighthouse!) so she should be able to put together a nice passport book.
lighthouse passport book.
$cha ching$

when we finally did make our way to the car we came upon big bushes of these beautiful yellow roses.
prett-y!
***that's a weekend joke. we had been talking about some of the lighthouse tour guides and how technical they get in explaining and how our minds would start to wander. i said that sometimes i just like to enjoy things and be like "prett-y!" like the little girls say. so anytime something was confusing, all weekend long we would say, "prett-y!"

Looks like a great trip. Gary and I visited here a few years ago when we were doing some family history work in North Carolina. Thanks for posting all these wonderful pictures!
