mother's day trip - old point comfort lighthouse #15 - the last

so after the two cape henry lighthouses, we stopped at jersey mike's for a quick style delicious sandwich lunch. when we got back in the car i thought i might look at lighthouse friends just one more time... and i found that the old point comfort lighthouse was seriously, like 5 minutes off the freeway. how could we pass that up? in actuality i found it, told the girls, and we had like 1 minute to decide... we all really needed to get home and it was already looking like we wouldn't be home till after 9pm, but finally shelly made an executive decision and we stopped. :) we didn't quite know which way to go, but after following the road around several bends, we came up on this little cutie. if new cape henry is an old man, old point comfort is a cute little girl.
with double braids.
and military houses on either side of her.
see, she's a little girl lighthouse that is located on private property.
never one's to take no for an answer, especially when it comes to lighthouses, we trespassed.

 just a little.
 okay, fine, a lot.
right about the time we were snapping the cute door, a woman cracked her screen door and said "this is private property," and quickly shut the door. in her defense, i guess we were kind of in her front yard. in our defense, it's a lighthouse! and we are pretty respectful lighthouses. except for all the trespassing and all.
how rad would it be to be assigned to live in one of these houses! i guess it wouldn't be that cool if you didn't like people trespassing in your front yard.
 whatev's.
on our way back to the car, heads hanging in shame, we found this cute delorian and sent matt a pic.
darliana recognized fort monroe and was pretty sure that when she was a newlywed, she and jeff had come to a wedding there. so we drove around for a few minutes when we came upon this cute tunnel.
laura was like... "are you sure i should drive through there? it looks like i'm driving into a house!"
#freaking out
yay!
we fit!
and darlaina was quite certain that she had been at fort monroe before. isn't it funny how we can recognize places like that, from 18 years ago?!
after cutie old point comfort, i checked for nearby lighthouses one more time, but alas, it wasn't in the cards. and virginia is just a few minutes away from us, so it shouldn't be that hard to get to the lighthouses there. right?
4 days, 15 lighthouses, thousands of great memories.
it was a wonderful weekend. :)
