memorial day bbq, cicadas, and the napping house

today was our wards annual memorial day bbq. i think we missed it the first year we moved here in 2009, so that would make this our 4th year going. but our first year with absolutely perfect weather! 70° and not humid at all. what a difference from last year!
frankie following bubba and his friends, pretty precious.
another difference about this year from the others?
the 17-year cicada infestation.
we're expecting anywhere from 30 billion to 1 trillion.
they are soooo gross. they are harmless, but that's not really the point. they're like huge, (2-3 inches long) ugly house flies.

as we walked to the park we could see holes all over the ground. then we started looking at the trees and at first they looked like holes in the trees, but upon further inspection they were cicadas all over the them!
my worst nightmare!
i started to have a little panic attack and i seriously thought about leaving, but i was able to pull myself together, and thankfully we didn't have any encounters, other than the crazies (matt and addie) that actually went and picked them up.
i guess i would rather my kids be cool with bugs than freaked out like i am.
frankie loves tony.
frankie  loves everyone, she has a big heart.
sweetie girl.
miss d was super tired, so after we ate our delicious hamburgers and potluck picnic, (i love me a good potluck!) she laid down in matt's arms and fell asleep. then frankie had a major poopie underwear mess and we had to lay delaney down to change her. so then matt decided to join her. it didn't last long, but it was pretty sweet.
yumm, snow cones.
and i need to be getting back into the summer swing and remember that sunblock breaks our ouchless pony tail holders. because i didn't remember that today, frankie had a mop head all day and addie half the day.

we got there at 11 and stayed till after 2. it was a great time, but it's always hard to leave.
now we have a quiet napping house, where everyone is sleeping.
it's a good time to reflect on the true meaning of memorial day.
so grateful for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice and grateful to live in this amazing country.
