mother's day trip - dinner and shopping

the locals were right on with their restaurant recommendation, basnights was great. we were pretty tired, so we didn't tale many pictures. darlaina got adventurous and ordered some authentic nc cheerwine and wanted a picture of it. i was sitting across from her and tried to get out of the picture, resulting in yet another gem of a picture for me. i'm just photogenic that way.

after some laughs at my expense, good naturedly, of course, darlaina got really artsy. this was after i had realized that we could see the flash from the bodie island lighthouse out the window! it was super cool to watch the distinctive flash pattern all through dinner. you can see the flash right about the 'd' in cedar.
we got a special (a very, very expensive special) that included appetizers - shrimp for laura and fried green tomatos and goat cheese for shelly and i, main entree - more shrimp for laura and tile fish (pronounced ta-il if you are from manteo) for shelly and i, and dessert - chocolatey chocolate cake for laura and key lime pie for shelly and i. darlaina was good and got a soup and salad. :)

going back in time:
after the currituck lighthouse, we realized we still needed some souvie's, becuase we each wanted to get a little something for everyone in our families. so we stopped at an outer banks original - wings! there are only about 499 on the island. this particular one had a cool over sized adirondack chair out front, that, naturally we had to climb and take pictures of.
with her braids, capris and tennies, and long shirt, we had said that laura looked like a little girl all day. so we had to get one of her sitting in the grown up chair. cute, right?
souvie shopping was successful! i ended up getting matt a sweatshirt (not until the next day, but more on that later), lexi a bag, chris a lifeguard sweatshirt (he is a certified lifeguard, after all), and addie and frankie a 1001 pirate things i-spy book. laney got a small squishy turtle and hermit crab. everyone actually got one of those, but you know, she's one and she doesn't really care. :)
