mother's day trip - roanoke marshes lightouse replica #10

after all the rushing of the day, we were pooped, and i still felt a little frazzled - in a good way. in my older years i'm finding that i really don't enjoy rushing around constantly. i still do it most of the time, but it's taking a toll, you know? i feel like i'm gonna have a heart attack sometimes, i spend so much time rushing. but that's another post for another day. we decided to head to manteo for dinner. manteo is on roanoke island, the little island that last year i claimed i would love to retire to.
ps - i think it would still be an awesome retirement destination.

this is a little lighthouse is a museum that was sadly closed for the day. we weren't too worried about it because it's just a cute replica of another roanoke lighthouse that we were planning to see later that weekend.
we walked around for a little while and then decided to try to take a picture of the 4 of us with the lighthouse and ended up with this little gem. i look like a creepy long neck dinosaur!!! so funny! poor darlaina's head is completely blocked and shelly and laura are making weird faces. we laughed soooo hard!

that ridiculous picture resulted in this laughing fest and then more laughing as we discussed the complexities that mama's of many children face with laughter and their bladders. get it?
we finally found a  nice couple to take some pictures for us. we talked to them for awhile and found out that they were from texas and were celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary and the first time they'd left their children since they became parents 13 years ago.
we met a lot of really fun people. we probably attracted them because we were having so much fun ourselves. :)
manteo is the coolest place! it has a really cool vibe to it.

we asked some locals about where to eat and they directed us to the basnights lone cedar cafe where we caught this gorgeous last drop of sun.
in the meantime, david sent me a pic of this little cutie and tugged at my heartstrings.
girls trips are so fun, but babies are so precious.
it's a good thing there's time enough for both!
