we looked all around southport for a good and decently priced restaurant to get some yummy north Carolina seafood. after some debating, we decided on the frying pan restaurant. it was modeled after the frying pan light tower that is 29 miles southeast of southport. the frying pan shoals light tower has been turned into a working and very campy bed and breakfast that I will someday spend the weekend at. isn't that cool?!
we got some delicious hush puppies and coconut shrimp, and some not-so-delicious crab cakes. they were wet and runny and more like a crab dip than a cake. lesson: do not order crab cakes outside of Maryland. I've gotten all snobby and spoiled with ma' crab.
and doesn't darlaina look gorgeous here? like meryl streep in her younger years!
after dinner we walked around the dock a little bit, talked it up with some of the fun locals, and then hit the road.
it was a busy and fun day! first a 7 hour, 400 mile trek from southern Maryland to southern north Carolina. then lighthouse, lighthouse, lighthouse, lighthouse (remains count!), dinner, topped off with a 2 hour and 100 mile drive up to our hotel. we were tired, but happy!
