st. mary's lake

alecia emailed me awhile back to see if we would like to do a kids swap to take advantage of our hubby's sequestration fridays and get some projects done. i was all like "sure!"
so matt and i decided that for our kid free day we would clean out the shed and build some shelves to better utilize our space. doesn't that sound exciting?! and then i was taking a shower the night before the swap and i was thinking, no! we need some fun time before work time! we've been wanting to go for a hike somewhere nearby, so i told matt my plan and he was all like "okay!"

so on friday (july 26th, for those keeping track ;) we dropped off our chitlins and headed out to st. marys lake. we thought it was about a 3 or 4 mile hike around the lake.
say what???
7.5 miles!
but we were still all like "let's do it!"
here we are after the 1st mile, in all of our blissful naivetè.
mile #2, still feeling pretty good. it was warm out, but the trail is very wooded so there was lots of shade.

mile #3, realizing we were gonna have to pick up the pace a lil' bit if we ever wanted to finish.
but still we were all like "let's do this!"
the trail was beautiful! we thought it was cool the way the landscape changed so much. trees, then open trail, then very wooded lane. you can see matt standing next to the trail as we prepared to enter the lovers lane. ;)
mile #4. this is where the hunger set in and i, the one who always has a snack handy, had nothing! and we still had 3.5 more miles! this was probably also around the time that we ran into a big ol' 7 foot long black snake. we were all like "holy moly, let's get outta here!"
mile #5 - famished and exhausted. ready to give up... but that would take longer than actually finishing. ;)
somehow in our excitement we missed mile marker #6, but 6.25 looked mighty fine!
a long time later (i wanna say it took us 3 hours, but i can't really remember) we reached mile #7! and then... that's it. i guess there was no post for mile #7.5? the trouble with being a month behind on blogging, the memory fails.
a little sore, a lot sweaty, we headed out in search of food! we wanted hole in the wall quaint, but there really wasn't anything in the immediate calloway vicinity, so we were all like "chinese dive attached to a gas station? sounds delicious!"
something about working out for 3 hours together really brings the love back! ;)
but really, it was so fun and so much better than cleaning out the silly old shed! by the time we finished our chinese food, which wasn't half bad after all, we didn't have much time left. so we worked together to clean the wood floors - awesome sauce - i've never had anybody help me clean them and it went soooo fast! then we had time for a quick shower, pack a picnic dinner, and it was off to pick up the kiddos! such a wonderful day and alecia said the kids, even laney, did really well.
 yay!!!!
