we got on the road around 6am. everyone fell back to sleep in the car, so we hightailed it as far as we could. addie woke up a few hours into the drive, and was hungry. she kept saying "can we stop at mcdonalds?" "can we take a shortcut" "ooh mom, there's a mcdonalds! mom? mom, you need to stop!" and so on. finally, all the babies woke up right around when we pulled into morgantown, wv. we stopped at a shoeny's and gorged ourselves on their yummy breakfast buffet and then took some pics.
granpda wanted to show us a cool project he had worked on while he worked at boeing, 40 years ago. they are called prt's - personal rapid transit for wvu, so we drove onto campus and drove aimlessly for a few minutes until i finally asked for directions to where we could hop on. then we wandered aimlessly down at the terminal. there wasn't really anybody around to ask, and the turnstiles only took quarters, which we didn't have. we looked around helplessly for a minute, and then the loudspeaker said "if you need assistance, pick up the phone. you there, in the beige hat and blue shirt, turn around and pick up the phone." it was the craziest thing! chris said he felt like we were in the movie eagle eye. it was seriously freaky!
so grandpa talked on the phone to the mystery voice in the sky and told him our predicament and how he had worked on these cars 40 years ago, and they let us ride for free!
sa-weet!
aren't they the cutest little despicable me looking train cars?
dark pictures, i hate you.
and blurry ones.
and ugly ones.
and fat ones.
and our prt finally arrived!
and we're off!
since no one else takes pictures of me!
the girls were so excited, it was like a roller coaster ride for them!
***hair disclaimer***
we had been gone for 8 days, 2nd full day of driving, and we left in the wee dark hours of 6am, when they were still asleep. so no hairbrushing to be had.
for any of us.
wee!!!
see, even frankie was worried about her hair?! haha.
one hot blond mess, one hot brunette one.
and finally, an after ride shot. it was really a cute and fun little ride. and so convenient for the college that has several different campuses. good job, grandpa!
stick a fork in her, frankie was done.
we were in a hurry to get home because christian was supposed to have a baseball game at 6, but even after several email attempts, i never got a confirmation from the coach. finally i had lexi ask peter, whose team we were playing against, and he said the game was cancelled. so we rushed for nothing. except that we were ready to be home. west virginia and western maryland are really beautiful though, and i really enjoyed driving through the mountains - i've missed them! all except for the ear popping, i didn't miss that part. somehwere in the high mountains of western maryland i couldn't handle it anymore. i was seriously drowsy and had a miserable sinus headache. i called matt and asked if grandpa felt well enough to drive for the last 3 hours. thankfully he was! i slept hard until we hit mattawoman beantown rd, i was so tired! we rolled up around 4pm, 8 days, 2200 miles, and thousands of fun memories later.
you can't tell to look at her, but grumpy pants and her mama were seriously excited to be done driving!
but now we miss our families!
why oh why can't everyone live near us?
