today was grandpa's surgery. christian worked and lexi cleaned her pigsty room and i took the little girls to sarah's. i brought along ingredients and made a gluten free meal for our freezer exchange (you know, the one i'm 3 weeks late for) and sarah and i caught up. then i left the 3 little girls along with her 2 little girls and i said a prayer for her. the babies were in rare form... between ellie hitting and laney "mine!"-ing... whew! i was worried. sarah said they did better after naps, i hope she wasn't just saying that! ;) addie and abby played together famously, and frankie played mostly by herself, as per the norm.
but... frankie did something huge! she poo'd on the big girl potty! i see light at the end of the tunnel! i think we might almost be potty trained!!! hallelujah!
i picked grandpa up and we were off to the surgery center for our 12:45 appointment.
there, grandpa signed his life away.
they took him back and then a few minutes later i got to go listen to discharge instructions, then they prepped him some more, and then it was finally his turn. it's amazing that they can repair a knee and you can go home the same day! they said the surgery went well and he should be up and ready to go back to work in 2-3 weeks. 3 hours later and we were good to go!
i thought it was amazing that he was walking around without crutches today! so far he's doing great!
this little girl is so sweet! when matt got home i asked her "who did you play with today?" and she said without hesitation "ellie." and when i asked who else, she said "abby." such little frenemies, those two!
matt stopped to pick up grandpa's rx's, we had time for a quick kiss, then i was out the door for the 2nd cheer parent meeting. lots of info!!! miguel was hanging out with christian when we got home, so they (and alexis) ordered a pizza and hung out. chris still needed to gather his school supplies, so we all went up to lexi's room (i keep a stash in a rubbermaid under her bed) and laughed and talked. laney kept us entertained too. it was a good time. :)
then tonight i wrote checks, signed a bazillion forms, and read a bazillion and 2 letters home.
and i think we're ready.
everyone knows what they're wearing. we know what time we need to leave. we've got lunch money and schedules, and forms completed. we do not have a special breakfast planned, a cute 1st day prop, a cute teacher gift, 1st day notes written, matching lunch box/backpack, or anything special for senior year.
so many good ideas i have that i just need to put into action.
ah, well.
so tomorrow is the big day.
frankie and i came up with a secret plan (that she then told addie) to make cookies for the school kids as soon as addie gets on the bus. i just don't want her to be too upset that she's not able to go. but then i also have to be careful that i don't make staying home sound too fun in front of addie.
bal-an-cing act!
bring on the '13-'14 school year!

I wasn't lying! :-p And Abby and Frankie can commiserate together about not getting to go to school.
