Day #208

Waking up the next morning we were surprised to find that it warmed up in a hurry. We couldn’t take much more cold, so that was nice. And Delaney searched inside her sleeping bag for a missing sock.

The agenda for day 2 was hiking in Shenandoah. Ellie rode with us while Frankie and Addie rode in the Aina’s fun and luxury wagon. By the next day the whole crew was up in arms because no one wanted to ride in the jolly green giant. I’m not used to kids not wanting to ride with me, and turns out I don’t like it. 😂 by the next afternoon there were so many arguments that we made Tony tell everyone they just had to ride in their own cars and we stuck to that from then on. And our girls were fine with that. It was weird.

This happy picture was before all the arguing. Cool shots from the cool car!

And crazy shots from the crazy one!

It was a windy steep road into the park and I felt sick every time we drove up. Thankfully the fresh air helped and I pretty quickly felt better. We met up with Chantell and Izzy and made lunches and then headed on our hike.

It was so beautiful!

Sarah, Tony, Matt, Chantell, and I all took pictures and I’m not a detailed enough blogger to worry about who’s were who’s.

So I’ll just dump a million pictures here.

The kids all did great walking and we had very few complaints.

The weather was perfect and there weren’t a ton of people on the trails. It was a really great time.

We were headed for some waterfalls and everyone was happy.

We went downhill first and then the way back was uphill. My legs were shaking after walking downhill for so long!

My girls are all climbers and they always have been. They climb everywhere. In lines, on trees, on playgrounds, where it’s appropriate and where it’s not.

So Delaney was all over. Jumping from rock to rock and playing all around.

We came to this beautiful waterfall with a little lagoon at the bottom.

We were all climbing and standing around taking pictures.

This pictures time stamp is 3:45. Lots of frolicking, lots of merriment.

The time stamp on this one is 3:48. That was an eventful 3 minutes! I missed seeing it, but from what I understand, Tony was holding Isla, and Delaney wanted to get past them, so she jumped, slipped, and fell right into the cold lagoon. By some miracle she managed not to get her head underwater, and she immediately started saying how cold she was was. Chantell scooped her out of the water and handed her right to me.

This one was taken at 3:56. 😂 After d fell in, I held her and started taking off her wet clothes, and everyone was bringing her sweaters and warm clothes, it was so sweet. We got her out of her wets and put on Ellie’s sweatshirt, Isla’s size 24 month pants (that Tony stretched out for her by pulling them up his arms), and then Matt’s socks that he took off for her to have a buffer from her cold and wet shoes. She was a sight! But she was a dry sight, and that’s all that matters. Matt asked her if he could get a picture where she fell in and she didn’t want to, but she let us.

We carried on with our waterfall pictures.

I was a little disappointed no one got a picture of the fall. We all had our cameras out too!

Chantell’s photobomb.

Lots of climbing!

Everyone gave d hugs after her harrowing fall. It was really sweet.

Since we rarely get mom shots.

Snack time on a log.

We were like the pioneer children, we walked and walked.

This would be a great picture if it wasn’t for that tree right in the way. Oh nature.

😍

Delaney thinks she’s real funny with her crazy faces. I do not.

Tony swung the girls across the rocks and they loved it.

Crazy group!

We came to this tall waterfall and divided up our group. Sarah and Izzy stayed at the bottom with Isla and several of the kids that didn’t want to climb to the top.

The rest of us climbed!

It was beautiful!

It was steep and tough, but we made it!

We wanted to keep going, but we called it good as high as we were.

The way back was uphill, but it was just this even road, so it wasn’t bad at all. Tony planned all the hikes and they were great and it was nice just to be along for the ride.

We had divided up meals, and it worked out that Ainas made omelettes for breakfast that morning, and then hamburgers and hotdogs for dinner. We had a campfire and had s’mores and then listened to our conference talk sitting around the fire. It was a great and a long day, and we all slept well that night.
