Kitty hawk

on monday morning Laura and I headed out to do our perishable shopping.
we drove all the way off the island (we're staying in kitty hawk) to go to a cute produce shop where i finally bought some north carolina boiled peanuts that i've always wanted to try and that we all decided were not-so-hot-so. then we went to food lion, wally, cvs, and another food lion (for ice cream!). 13 people = a lot of shopping.
when we finally got going for the day, we decided to go to the wright brothers memorial.
we walked around the museum for a few, and then headed outside.
here's frankie not wanting to come get her picture taken.
she hardly ever wants to come get her picture taken.
she's starting young.
kid group shot. + matt, who was holding one of the kids.
that metal strip that we're standing behind is right where the wright brothers took off for their first flight.
and lexi graciously modeling for us with the distances for the first 4 flights marked behind her.
then we decided to walk up to the big stone memorial at the top of the hill.
after a few minutes the little girls got tired, so then matt was carrying delaney and frankie, david had maggie, and christian had addie.
2 good daddy's and one someday in the far-off future (10'ish years!!!) good daddy.
and then it was "mommy, take my picture."
"mommy, take my picture."
"mommy, take my picture."
at least one of them likes to have their picture taken, right?!

after we got all wright brother'd out, we went about 5 miles down the road to jockey ridge state park to climb the huge sand dunes. first all the kids just had to wade into this cute little pond/cesspool.
there were tons of little tadpoles in there, so that was cool. i guess.
we hiked up and played frisbee and snacked and made sand angels.
then we decided that matt and david would get the cars and drive them over to the sound, while the rest of us would hike through the dunes.
we walked and walked and walked and walked, and finally made it to the sound.
and then we walked some more through the water, so we would be closer to the parking lot so we didn't have to bring all our gear too far.
the sound was so cool because the whole thing was super shallow. we walked out into it for a long time, seems like a good half a mile before our feet couldn't touch the bottom. it was the weirdest thing, i've never seen anything like it! the little girls, especially frankie, loved it because it was calm and quiet, franks doesn't love the waves.
we made it home to pulled pork in the crockpot and a delicious smelling house, love that!

fun, fun, fun day!

and just for dad, the front exterior of the scooby shack. :)

WELL, THANKS FOR THE PICTURE OF THE SHACK. NOW, WHY IS IT CALLED, "THE SCOOBY SHACK"?
