i rented a condo in ocean city because i thought it would be more fun than a house for the girls because it would be a little more like a hotel. i looked and looked, and having never been there, i made the best decision based on what i knew (which was close to nothing). then our top 4-5 choices were already rented. boo! so then i scrambled to find one that i thought would work and... let's just say my first experience renting a house/condo went horrible awry.
this was the first thing we saw as we walked in.
and it didn't smell very good. and then in the living room the pictures weren't on the wall. weird.
and the lamp shades looked like this...
and the refrigerator smelled bad and we found standing water at the bottom.
and the bathroom looked like this...
and this...
and the beds looked like someone had been rolling around on them.
we all sat around for a few hours. i don't think anyone wanted to go to bed. after debating for a long time, we finally decided that we just couldn't stay there. so at 3am, and in the rain, we left, like vagabonds into the night. ;) we stopped by a few places until we finally found a hotel with a 2-room suite that was only slightly more $ than our condo.
the next morning, jackie and i (the complaining dream team) got up bright and early and went to try to retrieve our money. after a long talk, the property manager said they would contact the owner and see what they could do. that afternoon we got a call back from the property manager saying that she would refund all but $100. so then we went back in to get our check and sign some papers and see about getting the rest of the $. finally, after we threatened to call the chamber of commerce, she agreed to refund the full amount, BUT, she basically blackmailed us into not writing any bad reviews or saying anything bad about their company or this property, which is why i won't put the companies name here. but now it makes total sense as to why i didn't read any bad reviews about this place, because i did check before we rented.
lesson learned.

We had the same problem (not as bad though) a few years back. We stayed but didn't spend very much time in the room.
