12 parts of Christmas

Plugging my way through our December.

1 trip to Virginia - after all the fun of Seussified, we took an overnight trip to Virginia to see Evan perform in The Nutcracker. We’ve not seen him dance in many years and he was impressive!

2 staff appreciation events for school - one I planned, one I donated to. Staff appreciation is where it’s at! Everyone loves you, you get to know the staff and have fun with them, and you get to enjoy treats too.

3 piano recital performers - the girls had probably their worst piano recital to date, but it’s ok. Seemed most of the performers struggled too, and Johnna said she gave the pieces out too early so the kids got too bored.

4th annual hot chocolate stand - we added cookies and rice crispy treats this year and were able to donate $200 to the Cat Castle. We love this tradition!

People stayed and chatted this year and It was so fun!

Yummmm!

The girls had fun making goodies with me.

5 Christmas party/concerts/shows - because of Seussified we missed lots of fun events, but we still enjoyed some Christmas traditions. Of course, the Darrow’s party of the year. Somehow i never take pictures there, but Matt and i won the food tasting game, and our team won the Jeopardy game, and we did not win the cookie game, despite our best efforts. Then Matt’s companies kid party that I missed because we divided and conquered. Actually, papa and Cade took the girls to that one. Then the Interfaith Christmas concert which is as so wonderful, I can’t even explain. So many performers from all different faith groups, just beautiful. We took one picture of the reluctant babies.

Then another kid party for the government group Matt supports. It was my first year going to this one, and it was fun to see, and the girls were asking when this party was for weeks in advance, partly because they miss a half day of school.
And finally, Evan’s awesome Nutcracker. The girls first Nutcracker and though it was long, we all enjoyed seeing Evan.

6 dental visits - not super exciting, but it was part of our December.

7 stitches - Remember the bum thumb? I had surgery to fix it on the 3rd, and fyi, December is the dumbest month to have any kind of surgery.

8 Christmas movies - ok, I’m not totally sure how many Christmas movies we watched, but I needed an 8. Notables - Home Alone (always), Noelle (loved it), The Best Little Christmas Pageant Ever (old fav), White Christmas (sisters, sisters 🎶), Elf (one of the first movies Matt and I watched together), The Christmas Story (a Christmas Day must watch), The Grinch (feels like we watched several different versions), and The Santa Claus classic).

9 fun visitors - the Finlayson 3, the Ray 4, Meaghan, and of course, papa!

10 Seussified Christmas Carol shows - just in December. That doesn’t include the many shows in November or rehearsals. Thankfully though they had an amazing cast and it was a really wonderful experience for both Addie and Matt. And we came together and made it happen. And it’s over.

11 teacher gifts given - between my fav teacher scrapbooks, to Addie’s middle school teachers, and piano, horseback, and dance, we’ve got lots of amazing teachers that share their gifts with our kids!

12 Christmas dinner goodies - we had appetizers and tried desserts we don’t usually make, and I am here for it.

I am trying to blog less details in the interest of being able to blog without spending so much time, so we will say if this quick synopsis works. I have all the words, and also a love of pictures, so I am not so sure. But it was a fun distraction as we drove through a hairy rain storm I didn’t want to see.
