1st day of pre-k

so addie didn't make it into pre-k for our elementary school and when i called they said it didn't look like she would make it at all. darn our healthy and financially stable family.

well, when i got back from ep i had a letter from the school district that said that they had extra room at a nearby elementary school if addie would like to go there. i talked to matt, we prayed about it, and we decided to try it out.
i definitely had my apprehensions. the school is 15 minutes away so just driving time alone will take up an extra hour of my day. it's not our home school, so we don't really feel a lot of ownership in it. it's every day. but there are also several good things. addie has gotten so bored at home. she's always "mommy, let's do a craft. let's paint. let's cook. let's color. let's ride bikes. i don't want to take a nap..." and on and on. also, it's free. it will give me time to focus on frankie and delaney. and i think it will be good for her to spend a half day at school before next year when she will be gone for a whole day.
*our attempt at hands on hips. i think she's a natural.
she wanted to take her hat and shades cause she's cool.
we had gone to a "meet the teacher/learn about the program" meeting on friday and i wasn't thrilled with the teacher. i knew i needed to give her a chance, but she wasn't very warm and friendly with the kids. and if she's not warm when the parents are around then how is she when we're not around? makes me wonder.
but we geared up and talked up how fun school would be and come monday all parties involved were super excited. we even talked daddy into meeting us for the 1:00 drop off.
she picked her outfit. she's not really allowed to wear flip flops so that kind of limits the cute factor. but whatev's. i love this little nerd.
there were 3 kids starting school on monday with us and we all waited patiently in the lobby.
and then the teacher came up, got the kids in line, and off they went.
didn't even ask if we wanted to walk down to the room or anything and it was really kind of disappointing.
and my apprehensions about her teacher grew.
but she seemed to have a fun day and off we went for a celebratory ice cream cone.
then tuesday came, and after a fun birthday party she decided she didn't want to go to school.
as we drove up she said "well, let's just talk to my teacher," like we did on friday. i told her how much fun she was going to have but as i parked to get her out she started crying. i told the teacher that addie was having a rough time and all she said was that she had a good day on monday and then found a friend to walk with her. addie went with jessica (a friend from church) and held her hand but she kept her head hanging down. as they started walking in she looked up at me and i told her i loved her and to have a good day and she just shook her head and put her head back down.
broke my little mama's heart.

but then when i picked her up, she seemed fine. they do things weird in maryland, so they encourage parents to wait in their cars and they line the kids up and bring them to us in our cars. addie was swinging on the pole and seemed to be visiting with the other kids.
she saw me and waved (i just missed capturing the wave) and was so happy to tell me about her day. but she's still saying she doesn't want to go back.

we're giving it till at least monday and i'm hoping it gets better.
i talked to my friend from church whose daughter is in the same class and she said she loves the teacher and maybe i just caught her on a bad day. except that it would have had to have been a bad couple of days. hopefully it will come together and sweet ad's will love school.
hopefully.

i know all parents just want to do what's best for their children. i just wish it was easier to know what that best is.

well, you always have a backup if that doesn't work out. ;)
