Birthdays, recitals, and injections

I had to tutor and do an assessment Monday morning. Being able to leave girls home alone is such a game changer, so i didn’t have to cancel anything. I was able to get Addie an afternoon appointment with our dr where they found she had a double ear infection.

Who gets a double ear infection on her birthday? This chic.

We chatted and tried to make the most of her birthday.

We had fun shopping the clearance at Rite Aid while we waited for her prescription.

We got her some medicine and Addie was feeling pretty good. She requested Okada for dinner, and birthdays are for being catered to.

She caught a shrimp! And the boys always do, soooo.

We had just enough time when we got home to do fancy hair and get changed, and then it was recital time.

It’s getting trickier and trickier to cuddle these big girls. But like Michael Scott, somehow we manage.

They all did pretty well with their pieces. Not the best, but they did work hard. Johnna is so patient and good with them! So grateful for her.

And the whole crew. The whole long piano recital crew. It is fun to see how they improve each few months.

The next morning Delaney wasn’t feeling well. She didn’t have a fever, so I sent her to school just to see how she would do. I wasn’t surprised when I got the call to pick her up. I got the same appointment time I’d had for Addie the day before. #Regulars. She looked at this momma duck with her 5 baby ducks trailing behind her and laughed and said “that last one is me!”

And then we laughed and laughed about how this chic was probably saying her legs hurt and she couldn’t possibly walk, just like our baby chic.

Love spending time with ma girls, and she wasn’t miserable so we had a good time.

We tore the pieces off our last day of school countdown. As of now we have 6 more days! 8 including the weekend. 🤗

Wednesday was also Addie’s 5th grade field trip to our pool. Parents were invited for lunch, but since D was home, I couldn’t go. Eva’s mom sent me some pics, so that was nice.

Delaney has a book report project due Wednesday, so we spent our day Tuesday working on her project. Because it’s June, and why would we still have projects due?

We concentrate with our tongues out. Always.

She and Sephie had planned everything and decided to use modeling clay.

Her strep test came back positive. Oopsie. Mine came back negative, because momma don’t play with strep and I was feeling a smidge sore and achey. We got her medicine and kept her home another day to be on the safe side.

Old lady thumb hasn’t gotten better, so I finally made an appt and went today. With a quick exam and without an X-ray, he found that i have a really long complicated named thing that means i have a knot in my tendon, or “trigger finger.” It can’t be healed by physical therapy and since I’ve already given it 3 months, it’s not likely to heal on its own. He recommended a cortisone injection. I pushed back and asked about anti inflammatories or other options, which he agreed to try for 4 weeks. But I’d have to take naproxen twice a day and wear a splint, neither of which I want to do.

Also we’re traveling this summer so time is of the essence. After weighing all my options, I opted for the injection, which he did a few minutes later. He said I need to take it easy with my hand for 3 days, but it should improve immediately. It’s swollen and I’m babying it, so I can’t say if it’s made a difference yet, but this is successful for 70-80% of patients, so fingers (but not the old lady ones) crossed it works for me. If it’s not healed in 4 weeks then I’ll be referred to a hand surgeon. All for an all night painting fest. It’s not been uncommon in my life to do shenanigans like painting all night, but i guess now that I’m older I need to take stretch breaks in my bursts  of productivity. It’s frustrating, but will be fine. We are praying for quick healing and continued use of my precious right hand thumb. I had no idea how much I used it until everything i used it for became painful.

I’ve fallen into a weird sleep pattern and didn’t feel great and wanted to nap after my appt. It’s our weekend to clean the church and since Matt is working this weekend, he and the girls went to clean and get Chick-fil-A while I baby’d old lady thumb with a nap. I’ve got such a wonderful family and little irritants like this help me be all the more thankful for how v healthy we all are. It’s a blessing I don’t take for granted.
