as for today

it shaped up to be quite a nice day and beautiful weather outside.

this little lady has been following me around doing this a lot lately.
(not walking around with a fork in her mouth, i just like to save the really unsafe stuff for pictures)
i love her and she's not always whiny.
just kind of a lot lately.

we fed the girls an early lunch and got them down for rests so we could enjoy at least one quiet session of conference. it was really good. i couldn't find my notebook that i usually like to write notes in, and since the big kids weren't using our conference puzzles, i decided really bingo it up and use all of them. it's a fun thing to do with your hands while you listen, and i'm really like 12 at heart, so it works.
2nd session looked more like this.
and this.
i rubbed christian's back, he rubbed addie's, addie relaxed in her unders.
and i spy a favorite dress...
i also figured out how the whole hair cutting incident came about.
frankie must have had her hair in a pony tail and then addie just cut the little bottom layer that had escaped. when i put frankie's hair up today it just came to me. i really should have been a detective.
detective shelly, right dad?
jus' chillin'.
darn sock.
(actually tights. i put tights on her so she can't take her socks off. sneaky, sneaky)
christian and lexi taught addie how to eat sunflower seeds.
yay!
and not gross at all!
matt made it home with just enough time to hear president monson conclude conference.
and then he went up to bed.

poor guy had almost finished his paper last night and then... gone.
it is the worst and how come that has happened to everyone?
it was a very frustrating night (i stayed up with him for moral support) rewriting a very pared down version of his original paper until midnight and then having to leave for a physical test by 5:30.
so when he got home he had a pass to sleep for the rest of the day.
he deserved it.
and he passed his pt, holla!

it was such a beautiful day that after dinner christian made a bonfire and we made our first s'mores of the season.
the girls are lazy marshmallow toasters.
lexi is working on a stages of development project for psychology so she took the girls outside and took a bunch of pictures of them - feeling ashamed, kicking a ball, verbal repetition, and pretend play (36 mo's), and skipping, pedaling a tricycle, balancing on one foot, and copying a triangle (48 mo's). i think her project turned out really cute! i keep telling her she should just take the girls to school with her, but for some reason she doesn't want to. ;)

laney's not super used to being outside in the grass. she stood rooted to this spot for the longest time.
watching me on the deck, watching the girls playing on the neighbors playfort. just standing there.
then christian brought out his little airplane and got it in the air.
and delaney flipped!
he didn't fly it at her, he was just flying it around and she screamed and got so scared!
poor baby!
don't worry, i took my pictures and then went and rescued her.
gotta catch the memory before comforting. ;)
still suspicious.
she had rubbed her nose on the sliding glass door (watching the outdoor proceedings) and rubbed off some of our fun window markers all over her nose.
tomorrow is the start of a fresh new week and fresh new possibilities.
as for me, i've got big plans to make it a good one!
