Okay, this hotel isn’t the greatest, but that is the ocean right outside our door, so you can’t really beat that.
Unfortunately there is a public park right around the corner and a little homeless encampment, so maybe not the best location, but still pretty convenient.
We started some laundry and I ironed to the sound of ocean waves lapping. We walked to brekkie and ate it on our patio. And one point as we were getting ready for the day we saw whale spouts and went out and got to see whales breaching, so that was pretty sweet.
We hit up the cutest little surf/skate shop where the owner asked if we were buying for someone and Matt told him that no, he was just an old skater. 🤣
Our friend Colleen told us we *had* to try the world’s best chocolate- Lyndgate, and since we didn’t have time for one of their tours, we settled for a chocolate tasting. It was super delicious and we got some to take home to our kids and Matt’s seminary class. ❤️

We dropped off the difficult electric car, and so far haven’t received any extra charges - aloha! We enjoyed a quick 45 minute’ish flight to Maui and here we are already on island #3. We Uber’ed to a car lot and picked up our converted camper for our 3 nights here, and went to Cool Cat Cafe for their delicious burgers. Matt loves the brand Volcom and unfortunately they are going out of business, and he regretted not buying a few more things in Oahu, so we found a store very close to our restaurant and did some shopping.

We walked around the cute mall and they were doing a group ukulele lesson in one of the open areas - so cool. We tried to make it to shave ice before they closed, but sadly did not. We did have to hit up their Target for a few provisions before our “camping” in the Haleakalā National Park. Then we headed to our first “canpground.” I’m putting that in quotes because it’s really just kind of a junkyard that one of the locals is trying to make into a campground. That’s fully how it was advertised, so we weren’t surprised at all. There’s 6 spots and a porta potty and outdoor shower and a whole lot of busted cars. But we rolled up in the dark and left in the dark and it was totally fine. It had started raining a few minutes after we got there, so we were able to get everything set up without having to go outside. The camper car owner had sent up videos of how to make up the bed, and it was actually a very comfortable night. The rain lulled us to sleep and the little fan worked amazing well. And the adventure continues!
