Celebrating Carter, Super Bowl, and a last minute change of plans

Cade has been doing some job training in Virginia, so he came down to spend time with the boys, and since Carters birthday is Tuesday, we celebrated him on Sunday. He requested pancakes and bacon with a smiley face for lunch.

And he was not jazzed about his candle or us singing happy birthday to him.

He did deign to blow this candle out, at least. Later when we put 4 candles in his cupcake he wanted nothing to do with them, so Emmett blew them out.

❤️

Henry is the sweetest cuddle bug and we’re all crazy about him!

Carter, but mostly Emmett opened his gifts.

And while everyone was hanging out, I showed Carter some old Halloween costumes I had pulled out. As I was organizing and putting costumes into a new bin I saved a few for the boys to play with. They love Mosters University, so Sully was up first.

He loved “scaring” everyone! It’s crazy to me that this 24 year old Walmart costume is still in such good shape.

He also tried on and loved the cat costume we thrifted 10+ years ago. And this is why I, like Delaney, am a bit of a hoarder. Look how happy these costumes have made the boys!

The girls tend to gravitate to and hang out near Henry. They were all just watching him till they saw me taking their picture.

Alli came down for the festivities too. I love that she lives close enough to see regularly! She’s good stuff.

And Henry had been happily cooing, again until I got my phone out for a picture.

We were playing a big round of Skull King (Damian won πŸ˜’) when Matt got a message from United about our Tuesday morning flight. They said because of a winter storm warning our flight might be delayed but we could travel Monday or Wednesday instead for no extra charge. We have so much planned for everyday in Hawaii, so the thought of missing a day made me nervous. Matt called them and we decided to take our exact flights just a day earlier. Craziness!

Matt decided to cancel seminary, I tried and am still waiting to find out if I can cancel the hotel in Baltimore I’d booked for us for Monday night, and I tried also unsuccessfully to extend our cabana stay in HI an extra night up front, but they’re all booked too. So we’re flying into Oahu on a wing and a prayer without a hotel or a car for Monday night. What could go wrong?

I had everything in a suitcase or set aside, but we quickly gathered the last odds and ends we’ll need and ate our Super Bowl feast and were still able to watch most of the bowl. It was a pretty terrible game, and I didn’t love any of the commercials I saw (I didn’t see a ton) and I didn’t love the halftime show, but it was ok. I feel like people never love the halftime show, but I didn’t think it was horrible. We tucked girls in with lots of extra kisses, Damian went to bed around 9 in preparation to chauffeur us in the morning, and Lu stayed up with Henry, in preparation for Damian to chauffeur us, and Matt and I headed up at 10. With a 3am wake up, 5 hours isn’t the worst.
