the napping room

the napping house is one of my all time favorite childrens books. i just love the illustrations. i do not, however, love the illustrations in my 2-year-olds own napping room.

(can you see her there, on the floor right next to her bed?)
she's been in her big girl bed for almost a year. it's been a roller coaster of sleep habits, good and bad. right now we're actually on a good streak so i really shouldn't complain, but this is getting a little old.

we (and by 'we' i mean i) clean her room twice a day. once in the morning and once after naps. and it's horrible both times. and if i miss one of the cleanings, forget it, it's really ugly. if i clean while frankie is awake, then frankie goes straight to the puzzles and pulls them down and apart like it's her job. then when she gets bored of that she starts on the books. that makes cleaning kind of like taking one step forward and two steps back.

addie usually plays for at least an hour (sometimes longer) before she finally falls asleep. and then about 75% of the time she lays down in her bed. but sometimes she just makes a bed on the floor and naps. and she always covers herself up perfectly, it's so funny!

notice the chair pushed up to the dresser. that's so she can control the cd player. because mixing a 2-year-old and a cd player is always a good thing.

this is the mess she made with her water and pretzels. and then she snuck into mom and dads room and took the tissues to clean it up. at least she tried to clean it though, right?

then it appears she pushed the chair over to the window. almost like she was plotting an escape. but then she got all tuckered out and finally laid down on the floor to go to sleep.

and that is the premise for my new childrens book, the napping room.
