weekend in review

it seems like there are pockets of time throughout the year when everything is happening and our days are full. we're smack dab in the middle of one of those pockets. not complaining, just busy. and i don't say that as if it's a badge of honor, i have a thing lately with people always being *busy*. we're just, you know, busy lately.

anyway, we're still trying to fatten up delaney. not really fatten her up, but just feed her. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
out of the blue on friday addie asked if we could send a picture to izzy and ask her to pleeeease come here for playgroup. so we did and then she sent us one back and addie was so surprised that she was still a "kid." like she thought izzy moved away and grew up or something. i'm loving this 4-year-old stage.
on friday night jodi and i hosted a baby shower for rachel baldwin. i've done a clothesline decoration at a couple showers and i think it always looks cute.
i cooked all day. i made some super yummy imitation chili's (like the restaurant, yo) asian lettuce wraps, complete with thai peanut, spicy sesame, and soy ginger dipping sauces, pico de gallo, and spinach dip. i was a little nervous because my superbowl spinach dip was a major fail (haaaate when i try something new with company and it fails!), but i think i've found the key. you've got to really rinse and then dry the spinach. otherwise, as in the case of my superbowl dip, it tastes super spinachy.
jodi made chicken salad on croissants and a fruit and veggie platter.
sigh, i love food.
the shower was fun and we had a good turnout. :)
on saturday i dropped christian off at his ham radio class at 9, then took addie to her gymnastics at 9:30. i had delaney with me, and matt took frankie with him to the blue and gold banquet that started at 10. lexi stayed home to catch up on her beauty sleep. :) from gymnastics we hit wally, then picked up frankie, then it was on to ellie's heartiversary party to commemorate exactly one year from her open heart surgery. it was a super cute party with super yummy food. so fun. from there we came home, and while matt bathed little girls, i went for a run. 5 miles, yo! it's been so cold that i've only really been on my elliptical lately, so it was nice to actually get outside and run. well, as nice as a run can be, you know. home, shower, finish bathing ladies, then off to the commissary and then the annual yw dinner and dance fundraiser. they served yummy olive garden salad and breadsticks, and then johnna made yummy lasagna. we ate and danced and i didn't take any pictures till the very end when matt and dave danced with their little girls.
very blessed that he loves our kiddos so much.
we bid on several items, but only won this cute valentines basket.
i'm a sucker for a cute valentines basket!
matt had to take a navy test this morning, so i flew solo with the kiddos at church today and it was rough. we've been out and about a lot and delaney was tired and cranky. she didn't want to be held or put down. not fun. i'm conducting in rs this month and that is challenging with a crying baby. thankfully, next week will be matt's turn. :)

also thankfully, matt was able to come home right after his test. mama was done and i asked for a nap - my first sunday nap of the early morning church year. matt's had several, so it was only fair. a nice nap and mama was good to go for the rest of the night. :)

when i got up, i hung out in lexi's room with her for a few. she's got stuff all over her walls and i always read them when i'm in there. this poem that robin wrote several years ago about life at our house always makes me smile.
see, everybody knows we love food up in here. :)

lexi being treated to one of laney's famous hugs.
we had a nice fhe and then played some games. old maid and then candyland.
true confession time.
i.hate.candyland.
it's pointless and long.
and i hate it.
so there.
tomorrow i'm not leaving the house but to fulfill my chauffeuring duties.
mountains of laundry and messes galore await my neglected house.
and i'm starting gone with the wind on cd, so yay!
