i love you day

*that's what addie calls valentines day. :)

tuesday
we had our kids day out at sarah's house. i came home and tied up a bunch of loose ends - laundry that hadn't quite gotten all put away, lingering mail that hadn't been gone through, chili dishes that needed to be done. after, i got addie to school at 1 and then it was naptime for little girls and mama, after being up late with the chili and up early with the big kids, i was due. that night christian and i got all dolled up and headed to the visitor center for "a night of music and inspiration."
some of our favorite missionaries were speaking, so it was a good time.
and the whole 2 hours up and back we talked and laughed, so it was wonderful.
this was my favorite musical performance. loved the percussion - a drum, a pot, and a bowl, and then the guy with the shaker used a small tube of m & m's.
ingenious and cute.
the program was really great and we were really glad we were able to go, but the getting home after 11 part was not so great.

wednesday
alecia brought over my 8 freezer meals (yay!) and then we headed to the library for storytime together. frankie made me laugh as she slowly inched her way up to be right in front of the flannel storyboard for the gingerbread man.
addie would only stay by me and laney.
needless to say, laney loved that. ;)
her face here says it all!
we hung out at the library till we had to leave for addie's school at 12:30. at one point frankie went under the table and laid down and looked like she could really fall asleep. not when i went to take a picture of course, but before that.
after we dropped addie off, we headed to the church to meet lisa to enter vt numbers. poor juli's husband has been sick so i'm still doing double duty. it's good to help, but will be nice to have just one calling again. hopefully soon. ;)
after that we were target bound for the last of our valentine goodies. then straight to pick up addie, made dinner, then on the road again. it was another long day.

after dinner we all piled into the truck and dropped lexi and meghan off at drivers ed in mechanicsville, then the long ride to church for christian's court of honor where i met up with matt and sent him home with addie and frankie.

he made life!
almost to eagle!
and getting my mothers pin, which is always awkward.
finally home and got this little lady to sleep.
sleeping babies are the sweeetest.
then, after our super long day i still needed to work out.
dari told me the next day how tired i looked at the court of honor.
yup, true dat.

thursday
fatigue takes a back seat to celebration!
alecia hosted a fun valentines day party for the kiddos.
they played and decorated sugar cookies.
and exchanged valentines.
and laney loves her a nice rocking chair. :)
after our party we dropped addie off at school for her fun party. i had bought each of the 4 teachers a small tin of chocolates and had them in a bag for addie to give to them. as soon as she saw ms. mcney she handed her over the whole bag. she was a little excited. :) and i was excited for her, valentines parties are sooo fun!

when frankie and i
(laney fell asleep in the car and since we park in the garage, i let her stay asleep with a blanket. she was so tired from all of our running around that she slept for 3 hours:)
got home we found a box of see's chocolates from grandpa ray in africa. not that the chocolates were from africa, just the grandpa. :)
we both had to taste test a few before naps and since frankie had the less messy face between the two of us... ;)
christian came home with girl troubles, but sweet friends that hooked him up. which is the way it should be when you are 14.
big deep breath.
after i got frankie down i took the sweetest little cat nap on the couch.
tired.
then after i picked addie up it was treasure hunt time to finish off the 14 days of valentines.

i gave them actual clues this year - "where sissy gets dressed," and "where all the kids (and daddy) make a lot of noise with 2 sticks." the second one proved to be a little too difficult for them, but luckily since we were sitting on the step right outside sissy's room trying to decipher our clue, she shouted out "the drums!" what would we do without her??? ;)
their last "special delivery."
 (as addie called them)
then it was big kid treasure hunt time.
they laughed and made fun of my clues, as usual, but smiled the whole time they were looking, as usual.
their last special delivery was upstairs, but i didn't go with them cause i thought they'd bring thier gifts down and open them. sadly they did not. and then chris came down and asked rather rudely why i'd given him weight lifting gloves when he has biking gloves that he uses and work just fine.
another big deep breath.
is it possible to teach graciousness when telling someone you don't like/need the gift they've given you? i mean, i'm glad he told me rather than keep and waste something he wouldn't use, but i have to say my feelings were hurt as this was the second time he'd shunned my valentine gifts.
oh, being the mom.
lexi still hadn't come down so i called up the stairs to see if she'd opened her gift (her very own copy of pitch perfect) and she said, "oh yeah, thanks." a little better response, i guess.
after the treasure hunt fun we did a quick blitz. being busy = messy house. not the most fun thing to do on valentines day, but you know. after that i ran meghan and lexi to drivers ed (we're almost done, hooray!!!) and came home to make heart shaped pancakes and eggs.

matt had class so didn't get home till after 7. he got me my favorite perfume - falling in love by philosphy. so sweet. with all of the talk of sequestration, i've been really trying to trim the fat from our budget so i really didn't expect anything. and consequently i didn't get him anything. he loves to snowboard and fly though, so i told him that he needed to go again and would get no grumbling from me. :) then, since i'd enjoyed some of grandpa's truffles and some cookies, i still got on the elliptical after 10 when i finally got laney down.
staying up late is a vicious cycle!
i've said it before but i'll say it again, my life is so full.
and i love it.
