i'm still trucking on my book list challenge.
so far i've finished 29 books, (1/4 done!) 24 that i'd never read before, and 5 that i re-read, but really, my memory is so bad so it was pretty much like the first time all over again. :)
i just finished dracula and i really liked it.
i've seen a lot of parallels from classic to modern literature, like the forehead burn that somehow linked mina and dracula and allowed them to see into each others lives and the link between harry potter and voldemort, just as an example. it's been really fun to read the books that a lot of movies have been based on. i think almost every book on the list has been made into a movie.
so much for original ideas. ;)
i've really enjoyed jane eyre, count of monte cristo, the alchemist, and then there were none, bridget jones diary (even though it was a little colorful), the catcher in the rye, pride and prejudice, the scarlet letter, the time travelers wife (again, way too colorful), and wuthering heights.
i really did not enjoy the canterbury tales. maybe if i had someone to help me understand the stories more, or if they had been shorter, orrrr, i don't know, i just didn't like it. crime and punishment was disturbing, but interesting. same with beloved.
and then there've been a handful that were good, but i would never have read them had they not been on the list and i probably would never re-read them - all the pretty horses, farenheit 451, alice in wonderland, just to name a few.
right now i'm working on hamlet. i think i'll like it, but i started it and then time passed by, and then i continued, and then time passed by, and now i don't really remember what i've heard. i also started gone with the wind, which i've read before and loved. and then don quixote, which is taking me a little while to get motivated to get into. sometimes it's hard for me to start a new book that i'm not super thrilled about after i've just finished one that i really liked.
oh, to have so many problems, right?
it'll take me some time to finish (i started back in july and am only 1/4 done), but i'm still glad i'm working on my list.
to reading!
or listening, as the case may be. :)
