trilingual xenophile

last week at the library, i spied a childrens book called that's the way we do it in japan. since matt loves japan, (he's been there a few times with the navy) i though i would pick it up for our monthly reading. addie loves it! we read it at least once a day.

so yesterday while i was making dinner matt casually tells me, "addie can count to 5 in japanese." and just like a little performing puppy, addie goes "ichi, ni, san, shi, go." !

so i ran for the camera and then addie had to play hard to get.
(excuse the part where i try to bribe her... i'm trying to stop doing that... she's just such a stubborn performer!)
she finally decided she would humor me. :)

(i especially love how she wouldn't count in english! so stubborn!)

this performance was after she had come up to me and said "mama, i don't feel well. i need medicine and i'm gonna lay on my little couch." seriously, "i don't feel well"? she is so cute! i thought she was just wanting attention, and she wasn't acting sick, so i didn't worry about it. then while she was playing with playdough, she insisted on keeping a blanket on her lap cause she was cold. and then when i went to hug her for her awesome performance, she felt very warm. and sure enough, she had a low grade fever of 99.5. after some motrin she felt fine. then last night there was some whimpering at 3am and she had a fever of 101.2. she agreed to medicine immediately (miracle!) and went right back to sleep.

hope she feels better today! if not then i guess we'll be reading lots of that's the way we do it in japan and fancy nancy.
(cause i also spied a fancy nancy book at the library that we hadn't read yet. fancy nancy's favorite fancy words. of course we all love this book and while reading it, we learned that xenophile is "a person attracted to that which is foreign." that's our little trilingual girl!)

ps - laying around at home and reading all day would be perfectly fine with me!

awwww!!! I never even thought to teach Abby how to count in Japanese... I was born in Japan! And I took Japanese in High School. Neglect, I tell you! ;) And I love how she completely ignored you about counting in English... ha! Probably because counting in English is just too easy for her now! She's probably just ready for her next language! ;) Hope our girlies get better soon!!
