cape may is the second tallest lighthouse in nj. she's a beaut. :)
the lighthouse challenges are so fun because there are so many people out enjoying the lights. there are a lot of older people, but also some families, bikers, girlfriends, and everything in between. everyone is pretty happy and in good spirits because they are doing something they enjoy. it's a really good time. someday, when we're bored of doing them (ha!) we'll volunteer at one. that would be fun too. :)
there are 199 steps to climb in this old gal.
seems like they really could have squeezed that one extra step to make it 200, doesn't it?

window near the top. the line in the middle is from a pulley.
these shots are all shelly and laura. i can conquer my fear of heights enough to climb and enjoy the tops of the lights, but you will not find me hanging over the edge, even if it is for a good picture.
woo-hoo!
she sits at the very southernmost point of nj, just across from delaware. (the first time we saw here we took the lewiston/cape may ferry) the land down there is marshy and pretty.
it was much cooler this day and it was so windy at the top that it sounded like a freight train when the wind would gust.
that's the parking lot that david hung out with delaney (maybe frankie too?) the first time we came. :)
we alternated our time at the top going outside and staying inside visiting.
braving the winds again.
shelly and i laughed that we looked like easter eggs with our bright colored north face jackets. now laura just needs a yellow one and we'll be perfect.
picture overload, i know.
our biker friends!
i'd like this sign at my house please.
we tried and tried, but were still not permitted to go up these last few steps to the very top. counting these steps, cape may has 217.
we had a fun time up top. we talked nj geography and pete's dragon with the other lighthousers and the fun volunteers.
like this guy. i think we were still trying to get to the top top at this point? i don't know. he told us about a song about marrying a lighthouse keeper and told us he'd actually been propositioned before. those hunky lighthouse keepers, they are irresistible!
looooove the wainscoting and the door. again. and look at those cute little knobs! ahhhh!
s - "super windy up top!! 199 steps, birders lined up all along the boardwalk looking at tons of birds in the water."
we teased shelly that she was totally torn between two old people hobbies there! birding vs. light housing!
just when you thought there were enough pictures, nope! we have to go outside still!
we were kind of footloose and fancy free with our time on sunday.
it was soooo nice after so much rushing all weekend.
darn electric lines.
she could use a good power washing, but she's still beautiful.
big face selfie - check.
