as is usually the case when dad leaves down, we've had some excitement today.
as i was changing the little girls diapers/pullups after naps, delaney (who had also been napping) let out a loud scream. she was wailing like she doesn't wail. she was rigid and angry, had a red/rashy face, temp of 99.3, and wouldn't open her eyes. i comforted and held and fed and she calmed down, but still didn't open her eyes. i could tell she was awake, but something just wasn't right.

so i prayed and i waited and i web md'd it.
after about 30 minutes, when she still wouldn't open her eyes (even in the dark bathroom) i decided to call her dr's office. they put me through to a nurse right away, who was talking to dr. miller as i talked to her, who said to take her to the er right away.
so. i had christian come with me to sit in the back with her and make sure she was okay (for the 3 minute drive to the hospital) and we got checked in and back to a room within 5 minutes. that made me relieved, but also worried that they were rushing us because it could be something serious. and you know worried mama had come up with all sorts of ailments, including but not limited to, meningitis, which my cousin died from and christian has had. sensitivity to light can mean a lot of bad things and i was thinking of them all as i prayed and held my sweet baby.
the dr. came in right away and checked her out. she looked good until he got to her eyes which he had to pry open because she was squeezing them shut so tightly. he got her some numbing drops and within a minute she was cautiously opening her sweet little almond eyes. then he put a drop of dye into each eye and shined a black light to check for abrasions. sure enough, horizontally across her left eye was a long scratch. sweet girl had clawed her eye. :(
unfortunately, the miracle eye drops cannot be prescribed (they can cause corneal damage with prolonged use), so we're giving her tylenol and eye drops to prevent infection.
relieved mama and happy'ish baby before her numbing eye drops wore off.
as the numbing drops started to wear off, we turned the light off in the room and played with her while she could still see.
within about 30 minutes she had closed her sweet eyes again and they've been squeezed tight ever since. the yellow running down her face is the dye they used.
after our harrowing experience in the er, we rushed home to pick up the girls, picked up dinner at checkers (cause we deserved a yummy and easy dinner), dropped the kids off at church, and stopped by target to pick up her rx.
christian put the little big girls down while i cuddled and loved on my sweet lanes.
those two big kids o' mine have been awesome this week that matt's been gone.
they've been so helpful and good to the little girls and me.
i seriously have some amazing children and i am so, so thankful that they are all healthy and happy.

I seriously didn't realize that Matt was out of town and now I feel like a jerk for not helping you!!
I'm glad everything is okay with her eyes.
Poor little Delaney! I'm so glad it wasn't something too serious--very scary, but not serious. Thank heavens for big kids, right? They can be such a blessing when the going gets rough. Take care!
