don't mind that each of these pictures features delaney in her jams. we believe in comfort and lower laundry production when we are home. seriously, one day i had to change a piece of her outfit at least 5 times. so whenever we can stay in pj's, we do.
delaney is experiencing a change of life. she's not my 100% precious little angel anymore. ok, actually she is, but she's been getting sassy with other people. she's still sweet about 50% of the time. so when we go to the school, she fluctuates between stopping everyone we see in the hall and telling them about any random thought (she's been known to ask teachers if they have a class and do they know how to talk) and full on giving the stink eye, stomp, and cold shoulder, if need be. it's so weird. and i don't know quite what to do when she's snotty. like, is that grounds for a time-out? probably, huh? i wish she'd just go back to my ultra sweet little sweetie!
some sweet laney'isms:
*playing with a dolls hair she asked frankie "does her look fabulous? frankie, does her?" she speaks so clearly that it's pretty adorable when she uses the wrong pronouns. that being said, i have been correcting her. so there. also, she is a girl that dishes out compliments, and loves to get compliments in return. even if she has to fish for them.
*i told her "i sure do love you!" and she said "oh. thank you." lil' stinker.
*(looking for the ipad) "where's daddy's i-puter?"
*she was in a salty mood one day when we were outside as a helicopter flew over. i said "look at the helicopter, laney! she replied "that's not a helicopter! it's a baby airplane!"
*she's been known to tell people to leave her alone because "i need my privacy!" (pwyvacy!)
*one night she wore her red reunion shirt to bed. lexi had seen me put her down and as she got ready for bed, she put her reunion shirt on too and then went in to laneys room to show her they matched. laney very grumpily said "lexi! i'm sleeping!" so sassy!
*when i took the activity girls to the temple this summer, we took the time to sit at the feet of the Christus and listen to the audio. after that we walked around and saw a bust of Christ. laney said "look mama! a broken Jesus!" :)
*also on the day she was an honorary a-days girl, the girls were singing lego movie songs in the car and they taught her to super deeply (ala batman) sing "darkness! no parents!" except she says "no pawents! dawkness!" it's super adorable, but she got stingy with it (probs because i asked her to sing it so much) and she hardly ever does it anymore. :(
*she's learning that saying "it's not scary, it's just real" doesn't really make sense. but she still says it every once in awhile. like tonight when she was writing a book and was asking me how to spell each word (that's a fun game) and said "how do you spell 'scary'?" and then "how do you spell 'real'?" i guess i just love their little mis-sayings because it keeps them little. :)
*we were outside this week enjoying the beautiful fall weather, and in a ploy to take her jacket off was explaining to me how hot it was. "mom, i'm not cold! i'm blazey!"
*one day she wanted to watch tv and i said no, so she was trying to explain to me why i should turn the tv on for her. she started by saying "i'm not feeling much good." :)
*giving loves to me one day she cupped my face in her hands, kissed my cheek, and said "i love your face. your face is fabulous!" gah! i love that little sassy-pants.
and also, her hair be crazy when she wakes up!
she had fun trying on costumes all halloween season.
even though she's getting saltier, she's still pretty precious. she still cuddles, still loves her lovey and her own bed, and still drinks chocolate milk before bed. she's still not potty trained, still fluctuates between saying she's a big girl and a baby, and still needs help getting dressed, though she's starting to do it on her own. i'm savoring every moment of this baby'o'mine being a baby, but also loving these fun new stages of life that having our baby be a big'ish girl is bringing. i am feeling much good about life. :)
