yay! it's lighthouse time!!!
out of the 29 maryland lighthouses laura and i only need to see 4. we were thrilled when, several months ago we found a chesapeak northern lighthouse tour. then we couldn't fit in the june, july, or august cruises, so september it was! our cruise left at 8am from st. michaels, waaaaay over on the eastern shore. we would have left friday night, but my baby boy had a game and it hurts my mama's heart to miss out on them, and i already missed his first game, which incidentally, he missed also. thankfully i have good and understanding friends, so we left saturday morning at 4:45.
nice and early!!!
we're on our way selfie!
it helps when you turn the camera around. ;)
there we go!
i look so dark because the day before i fried a lil' bit at the fair. because who thinks of sunscreen in september? not this girl.
selfies in the pitch dark are always ahmazing.
anywho, 2 1/2 sleepy hours later, a little getting lost and searching around for our boat, and we made it! we cruised out on the sharps island boat under the direction of good ol' captain mike and first mate jerry.
3 supah excited lighthouse ladies!
the bay was glassy and smooth, it was the best, and i felt so good the whole cruise! no motion sickness at all. hooooooray.
i have said it before, i will say it again, there is nothing like that first moment that you spy the lighthouse you're looking for. there she is! just a little speck there over the bow.
we have dreamed of seeing this lady for a long time! this is laura's phantom light, she swears she's been there. it's become a running joke with us that she went without me. my phantom light is barnegat lighthouse in nj, fyi.
this lovely lady got it's tilt in the 1970's during an ice storm.
but she's still standing strong and we loooooooove her!
we asked someone to take our picture.
oopsie.
don't worry about getting the lighthouse in the picture, it's all good. ;)
it was such a perfect, crisp, cool, calm day.
#happy
we tried to do better on our own, but that didn't pan out too well for us either. and then captain mike was all in a hurry, so that's all she wrote for the three of us getting in on a picture.
all the lighthouse buddies are so friendly and fun. and we weren't the youngest on this cruise! there was a man/woman couple in our age bracket and they even brought their 7 year old son. oh to have a little lighthouse enthusiast!
8:15 and we were 1 lighthouse down, 9 to go!
yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhh!
