the whole purpose of our lighthouse weekend was to take a lighthouse cruise to see four lights, two lights we'd seen, and two elusive virginia lighthouses. we were sold at first glance! we ate a delicious seafood dinner at a swanky restaurant in virginia beach and stayed in a not so nice comfort inn near norfolk. we walked around virginia beach a little before and after dinner. that kind of beach, that commercial kind, is not my fav. i prefer quiet to busy boardwalk.
we got up super early to drive out and catch our 9:00 cruise out of rudy inlet. us and all the over 50 crowd! this cruise was sponsored by the us lighthouse society, the first trip like this we've ever done. we're sold!!! it was so fun and we met so many other nice lighthousers, including, but not limited to skip sherwood (big in the uslhs) and james hill - owner of several very impressive lighthouse books, and the man responsible for changing the way we manage our passports. i know, i know, this is important stuff.
anyhow, the first two lights on our cruise were two we'd already been to, new and old cape henry. i was so excited to get new cape henry with the light flashing! i didn't even have to try that hard. sweetness.
there they are. :)
closer up. love these.
we cruised through several schools of dolphins, it was so cool. they were totally swimming alongside our boat, jumping up at us.
unfortunately, i didn't get my camera out until we'd already traveled away from them a bit.
they are such beautiful creatures!
the water was absolutely gorgeous! it was the most peaceful day, the water just like glass! couldn't have asked for a better cruise!
