Leaving at 1:00 made for a nice, leisurely morning at hone. Papa came and picked up the girls to do a donut run, but he was a good boy and treated himself to a slice of avocado toast. Such a hipster!
Delaney had a grand adventure. The girls were a bundle of nervous excitement. It was a beautiful day and I wanted the girls to get outside and play but D was resistant. I gave them their marching orders and then went upstairs to get ready and had a few calls to make. When I came down, Delaney was grumpily hiding under a blanket and I promptly sent her outside. She was pretty grumpy about it. 30 minutes later Addie and Frankie came home and hadn’t seen Delaney. Duh, duh, duh!!!
After a few minutes we went out and started looking for her. Papa was in his car with the girls and Alli left in her car and Matt and I walked on foot. After I saw my dad heading into Clark’s Rest I started to get that panicky feeling when you can’t find a child.
Matt and I decided to search the house one more time and then get in our car. There was a window cleaner outside across the street and he asked us who we were looking for and he was going to help too, and then a sherif turned down our street. I asked Matt if we should flag him down, but we didn’t have to. He stopped and asked if we were looking for someone. We told him that he’s we were and he told us he had her in his car, i had tried to see inside but couldn’t. There was a miscommunication and Delaney thought the girls were at the wooden park and walked all the way up there by herself!
Someone had told the officer that there was a little girl walking by herself on Hollywood road, so he approached her and she walked away from him at first. They checked the park and the girls weren’t there, so he brought her home. I was so scared when he pulled up and we couldn’t see her in the back. Ahhh! So many prayers! We both cried! So grateful she was found by a kind police officer and not someone up to no good.
And we’re off!
Old faithful jolly green giant.
And the White House on P street. 😍
We made it to Dulles 2 hours early. We dropped our bags off and headed to the USO where we were thoroughly spoiled.
We were the only patrons. Because of covid they haven’t been able to get through a lot of their snacks and food, so the nice volunteer encouraged everyone to stock up, which, incidentally didn’t take much encouragement. The girls are cup of noodles and Mac and cheese, we all got drinks, and everyone grabbed a few snacks for the road. It was a perfect stop.
The girls were so excited we got to ride a train to our gate. It was like an amusement park ride. And we were in a compartment all by ourselves, so that was nice.
And we’re off again! D and I had a row to ourselves, and Addie and Frankie had a row to themselves, so that was wonderful too.
We usually only ever fly southwest, so the girls were so excited to have TVs at their seats.
Delaney dutifully documented as much as she could, but unfortunately we were right over the wing.
Our first flight was 4 hours to Denver, then we walked 500 miles to our next gate (from gate 16 to gate 86). We made a pitstop for pretzels and then were on our way again! This time on a little baby plane. This was it. There was one row behind me, but this was the whole plane. One flight attendant and she was so new she had to read the announcements off her phone.
We were so happy that after our day of adventures, police, planes, trains, and automobiles, we landed safely at the cute little Great Falls Airport just after 9. Lu picked us up and we got to meet cute little Carter and talk about how excited we were to see Emmett in the morning!
