Hawaii - Day 13

We got locked out of the laundry room last night, so had to finish drying our laundry this morning. The Royal Kona Resort was built in the 60’s and it shows.

Matt posing while I'm on our 4th floor.

We decided we had to swim at least once and the pool was so nice! Salt water and warm’ish and over looking the beautiful ocean.

We only had an hour to swim and then had to hustle to church.

Via Jack in the Box for a quick Hawaiian brekkie - eggs, rice, and Portuguese sausage. We shared one and it was perfect.

I was so excited because our resort was just a mile away from the Kona temple and we planned to go to church at the church house right after. I knew the Kona temple was closed but I figured we could get some pictures. You could have knocked me over with a feather when this is what we found!

The temple is completely gone! Sadness. I was planning on counting that we’d been here since we tried, but now I guess that’s out the window.

We ❤️ visiting churches.

When we walked in we found the young women greeters with these amazing tags! I told them those were so cool and asked if I could get a shot, and I told her I’d just get her tag and she was like, “no, I’ll mug for you!” I love this idea and sent it to our stake YW presidency. We were talking to another couple that was visiting after church and I mentioned the tags and she hadn’t noticed and she also loved the idea, so I sent her the same picture. So cool!

Hawaii loves their church courtyards. The chapel and *huge* cultural hall were attached and then you walk through this courtyard to the RS room and other classrooms.

We had a really lovely RS lesson and lucky Matt got to go to elders quorum outside in their pavilion over looking the ocean. His view behind us.

We said see ya later to the Kona side of the big island and drove straight through the middle to the Hilo side. First stop - Rainbow Falls.

They have an overlook and of course people were not obeying signs and playing in the pools. Not us though.

I read about Makani’s Magic Pineapple Shack, so we stopped there for “lunch.” I got one of their famous açaí bowls with fresh fruit and  it was very good. Matt got passion fruit soft serve in a pineapple bowl. Yummy.

From the pineapple shack we could see one of Hawaii’s little lighthouses, so we walked over to grab a pic.

Our bed for the night is out in the wilderness, so we stopped at the KTA Superstore for dinner and brekkie. Cute little lizard.

Tonight we’re staying at an off the grid treehouse! We took a few things up to open the latch door and check things out, then we spent 15 minutes organizing our bags so we don’t have to bring much upstairs to the treehouse.

This place is crazy!

Lava rock path with all our gear for two nights.

There she is!

There are 2 bedrooms and both are like this with the clear plexiglass walls.

Matt went down to explore.

I checked out the hammock.

So cool.

Matt checked out the gym, you know him, always lifting weights. 🤣

The open air bathroom. We flushed the toilet and there was this loud processing sound for a few minutes. This place is all green and solar, so i don’t even know what it was, but it was doing something.

From one of the walls.

There are 2 rooms here, so you can rent it for 2-4 people. Since we are the only ones here, the other room is locked, but here is the view from that room, the bathroom is on the right, then the kitchen, then our room.

Duolingo, yo!

Standing in the kitchen.

Isn’t that bedding situation so fun! I think the owner is European, and they’re always being creative with their bedding.

We had dinner at our open air window. Egg rolls and chips with mango pineapple salsa. We also got a salad but we’ll save that for tomorrow. Weird, but good.

Matt lit the fire and we cuddled on the loveseat and watched the sunset. This trip, I can’t even. It’s been so very wonderful.

Heading to bed early in hopes of seeing the lava glow tomorrow! Can’t believe we only have 2 more nights here! And then I also can because I miss my babes! Two things can be true.
