I woke up still feeling a little like the world was moving too quickly under my feet, so we got a little bit of a slow start. I did my Duolingo on our balcony.
There’s a cruise ship right outside our “resort.” Happy cruise memories!
Boooo. Pretty ticked about this as it was a major selling point to this place.
As we drove south we saw signs for a flea market so we checked it out. We shared a hot dog and bought a Koa wood spoon and earrings.
As we continued on our way we decided to stop at a fruit stand. We each got the best clementine and a small load of banana bread and coconut pineapple bread. Yummo.
We stopped at the Pu’uhona O Hōnaunau National Historic Park.
This place was a sanctuary for people that had been sentenced to death. If they could get here, they received mercy from the kahunas there. Pretty beautiful.
Shaka!
Right next to the national historic park was 2 Step beach which is known for snorkeling.
As we were getting in off a rocky ledge, I slipped and landed flat on my bum. It hurt for a second, but my rashguard protected my arm from lave rock scratches, so it wasn’t terrible. But it was funny. I laughed about that one for a long while. 🤣 My foot does kind of hurt though, I must have hit it on something. 🤣

We spent an hour snorkeling around.

I’m loving the snorkeling!

We continued our drive south to the Ka Lae Lighthouse.

Ka Lea actually means South Point, which is the southernmost point in the United States.

Hawaii doesn’t have many nice lights, but I still love them.

We hiked all around and checked our maps to ensure we really were at the southernmost point.

Coral reef beach. It was pretty incredible walking on this.

What is that giant red rock doing among all the black lava rocks? We don’t know.

This is a close as we got because where it said South Point was was blocked off for sacred land reasons. I’m calling that we got it.

Southernmost point! I wish there was a sign, but you’ll have to trust me.

He’s an explorer.

Once we got back up to near the parking, we saw a small group and 2 guys in swim suits. Matt was really wanting to cliff jump there, so he got excited when the guys told him that’s what they were doing. He watched 2 of them jump and he was ready. That is a high jump!!!

He did it twice and we left the southernmost point happy as a clam.

Just down the road we found this cute little farm with a pizza truck and fresh Hawaiian specialty chocolate. We ordered an authentic Italian pizza and it was delicious.
After, we walked around the farm and then taste tested their chocolate and cookies. 😋 It was a fun stop. And I’m wearing my big coat because it’s at 1000 feet elevation and it got super chilly.
There is so much black lava rock all around, it’s really not very pretty.
We made our way back to our hotel to hit the pool.
Unfortunately, the pool closes at sunset. 😩
We received a coupon for free Mai tai’s, so we went to the bar and asked for virgin pina coladas instead.
And we walked around and enjoyed the beauty of the ocean at sunset.
And while we did, we found a little baby light.
A quick trip to Lighthouse Friends told us it’s called the Minor Light of Hawai’i.
Then we spent a much needed quiet night in our room. We’ve been running!
