Last day

On Monday we headed down to the officers beach, about half a mile from our cabin. We should have gone down there sooner, because it was awesome! The tide was out and there was this awesome long tide pool that the girls (and Daniel) loved.
It was so warm and just the right depth. We are heading home with bags and bags of beach treasures!
The water was nice too because we could be past the breakers, and the girls could still stand, so we didn't have to hold them and fight them trying to swim away.
It was warm outside, the water was warm, it was just a wonderful day.
The big boys tried catching the little fish in the tide pools.
Delaney walked all around with them and yelled at the fish. It was very effective.
We had lunch and played in the waves and enjoyed our last beach day. We drove to this beach, so every 30 minutes or so one of the big kids would complain and ask to go home. Cause spending a day at the beach is a total punishment.
Chris wouldn't smile for me, so Laura stood above him and dripped cold water on his back. He still didn't smile for me, but it was fun to see him get wet.
Finally around 5, the girls were freezing and tired and melting down. So we loaded up and headed back to the cabin where they rinsed outside, then enjoyed hot showers and jams. We had a clean-out the fridge kind of dinner. A couple apples, sausage, shepards pie, hot dogs,  garlic bread, and croutons for dinner. Super gourmet! One of lauras friends brought some crabs by, they are so cheap here, only $1.50 each!
The crabknocker headed straight over to supervise the steaming efforts.
Ready!
Then we had fun picking the crabs.
Frankie the fish lover checked things out for awhile, but she wasn't into it and I don't think she even tasted one.
Addie, the photog, took some pictures. I deleted a lot of them, but here is a sampling.
We had one of these bushes at our first home in NM. Ps - she didn't want to try the crabs because she was born in NM, so she doesn't like seafood. She did relent to touching her tongue to a piece, but that's as far as it got.
This was my personal favorite.
Then franks wanted in in the photog action.
Then she had to take a bunch more. She would tell us how to pose and everything.
Too bad she cut off my crab.
Very artsy.
Even more artsy.
So pretty!
Yummmmm!
Chris showed me how to do it. He pulled the belly off and told me not to eat the lungs. Or the mustard. Blech.
After the crab fest we all packed our clothes up and packed as much of the trailer as we could. Packing up is never fun, but it was nice to spread it out over two days.

The girls got to bed at a reasonable hour and Chris and I watched Armagedon while I blogged some more. Supah nice day. (:
