Yesterday was one loooooong day.
I love my children so much, so why are snow days such a dread?
Maybe it's the kink in the plans, that early morning phone call, not being able to drive anywhere, activities cancelled, wet and cold children, and lots of extra laundry.
I don't know, but maybe that's it.
School was cancelled yesterday before it even started snowing "in anticipation of snow."
I guess the roads were icy.
Whatever. ;)
Thankfully I went grocery shopping on Wednesday.
And not in preparation for the snow at all, just cause I needed to.
Since the kids were home I had all these grand ideas of how our day would go.
We'd all power through an hour or two of cleaning.
Then we'd decorate the tree.
(which we bought on Monday and is still sitting bare in our family room.)
Then we'd order a pay-per-view movie and pop some popcorn in our fun new microwave bowl that pops kernels without any oil (dad you would LoVe it!), drink some soda, and have half the neighborhood over.
Can you even believe that's not what happened?
Today though.
All that's stuff is gonna happen today.
I went to start a load of laundry yesterday and noticed that the rotator in my front loader felt kind of stuck. Usually I can spin it around but yesterday it was moving slooowly.
The still small voice told me "don't start a load of laundry."
I told myself "you are just being lazy."
Guess who was right?
A few minutes later I was downstairs doing dishes when I heard a drip, drip, drip.
Alexis had just come down and was telling me her plans (which included her leaving for the whole day) and for a minute I thought it was her making the noise. The second I realized it wasn't her I ran upstairs like a crazy person because I knew it was the washer and I knew I shouldn't have started it. I think the big kids just followed me to get a chuckle. Yup, the laundry room floor was flooded.
I mopped up the mess with a million towels and then heard the kids yelling downstairs.
The water was seeping through the ceiling and our light fixture (that apparently sits directly under the laundry room) was completely full of water and dripping out.
Of course Matt had just taken his lunch break and wasn't available for an hour. Christian and I took apart the washer (okay Christian did it, I just held the washer up!) and all that was stuck was a penny. And the light fixture was still completely full of water!
To make a long story short (ha!) we finally got ahold of Matt and he came home from work early. We called a builder from our ward and he said it should be fine and shouldn't mildew. Matt attached a hose that had come loose (causing the rotator to be stuck). We called our builder and they are sending someone out today and hopefully that fixes the problem.
And I have probably earned myself a trip to the laundromat.
Yay!
Today I'm wrapping presents, making sweet pork tacos, taking the babies out in the snow (I know right?!), and watching a movie.
In that order.

You know, dealing with this for a living, I would have a dryout professional come out and check for water anyways. Builders usually don't have that with them. You don't want dryrot. I'd rather you spend a couple of hundred dollars on this, then 10's of thousands years later. :)
Oh Michelle!! What a story! I hope you were able to stick to your plan for the day, though.
