We packed and tidied and we didn’t leave by 12:00, but we were only off by 10 minutes, so I call that a success. The drive to Luray was beautiful. Fall is fully beginning and we took backroads through Culpepper and Fredericksburg and it was so lovely. We also saw tons of political signs which was interesting. We got to camp around 4 and figured out where all our tents should go and everyone pitched in on the setup.
Addie and Abby should have had their first girls camp this summer, so they were excited to have their own little tent to sleep in.
They put it up all by themselves.
Addie had all these ideas for camping. She wanted to bring a suitcase and was v stuck on buying dehydrated fruit, both of which she did.
These two strong girls. 😍
The girls ran around and played, climbed our tree, and went to the playground. They were totes living their best lives.
We searched Yelp for the best pizza and Matt picked it up while Tony swung by Walmart. We tried the Ciro’s special which was a stuffed pizza and just ok. For scriptures we continued listening to a conference talk each night and then discussing it. The kids all do a really good job of listening and finding good points to talk about. I loved our gospel conversations each night.
We laughed and laughed at this picture where everyone is engrossed in their business and I am smiling at the camera. My dad trained me well! 😂
That was our coldest night and it was a little bit shocking to all of us. It dropped to the mid 40’s and none of us had a coat. It was SO cold! Too cold to even make a fire, which looking back was silly, but we were freezing so we all went to bed early. We had 5 sleeping bags and each had an extra blanket, but I froze all night. Addie said she was cold too, but she wasn’t in our tent and I wasn’t about to venture out to check on her. The little girls each had a sleeping bag, blanket, and then I put the extra sleeping bag on both to share. Matt and I, who are not cuddlers, cuddled together all night and still shivered the whole time. It was my worst night and I didn’t sleep great, also because the little girls needed to go to the bathroom 3 times. I took one once, and Matt had to go twice so he took them the other 2 times, but it was so cold without him so that each time was a major disruption. Cold camping is not fun!
