We did it!

Matt and I feel like we have arrived at a huge parenting milestone.
We left our girls home alone for 5 days while we went to Costa Rica! 😬🎉👀
Feels like the world is our oyster! But also, we love traveling as a family, so we probably won’t be doing a couples trip alone for awhile, especially after Hawaii in February.

I wrote about each day every night but didn't want to post anything while we were gone, thats why it's written in real time.

Anyways, on Thursday morning we woke up at 3:15 and left our house by 3:45
Since Costa Rica is international, but not like, really international, we weren’t sure how early we should be. Quick pic in the cute hotel where we parked our car.
We arrived at 6:00 for our 8:15 flight and we were very early.
We had a super short layover in Orlando so we sat separately towards the front of the plane for the first 2 hour flight. Then together in the back of the plane for the 3 hours to San José. It was cloudy = bumpy and I don’t love flying and leaving the girls home alone was an added layer, but thankfully thankfully all was well.
We took our free shuttle to our hotel and got checked in early before 2:00.
I had brought a few granola bars and we split a giant egg burrito in Baltimore, so we were hungry.
Cute Hotel La Riviera!
We had a delicious lunch at our hotel restaurant where we were doted on and treated like royalty.
Then we set off for some haircut tourism.
This is maybe my favorite of Matt’s many international haircuts.
He had a cute young little barber from Venezuela and he was very careful and attentive.
And very appreciative of a little tip. ❤️
Spanish school in Costa Rica. It was cute and clean and very outdoors.
We did some window shopping and walked around. We saw a funeral procession leaving a church, but instead of driving the whole group walked behind the hearse van. Right on the busy streets. We have a super nice new grocery store right across from our Hotel La Riviera, so we shopped and got some road trip snacks. I love foreign grocery stores!
We also got a few desserts for tonight - key lime pie for me and peach tres leches cake for Matt.
We came back to our hotel to swim and eat our dessert. We FaceTimed the girls by the pool too.
One surprising thing is that it is not hot. It’s not cold, but a cool 70° and a little humid, which makes it feel warmer, but then also windy and cloudy which makes it feel cool. It’s very pleasant, but not really swimming weather. At least that’s what Matt thought.
We both walked into the pool only he dived right under where I didn’t want to get my hair wet and he got out after one lap. It really just wasn’t that cold, so I treaded water and listened to my book, happy as a clam while Matt showered.
Our last event of the day was to walk to the temple. Our hotel is about a 5 minute walk, but alas, the temple is closed for their annual 2 week maintenance. It still counts though. 🤗 We walked around the temple grounds and said hello to a group at the meetinghouse and peeked in to a woman cleaning one of the apartments, really a bunch of creeps over here. We walked around a park nearby and just enjoyed the evening. The lights on the mountain are so pretty and it’s so fun to be somewhere new!
We are old though and we did travel all day, so we texted Chelsea and Steve that we loved them and we’d see them in the morning because 10:00 Costa Rica time = midnight our time and being up at 3:15 does not lend itself to a late night.
Pura Vida!
