adventure time

we finally made a day trip to dc for a fun little girl adventure!
when traveling with children things are always risky, and sure enough addie was feeling sicky-poo on the drive up. we decided to regroup at chic-fil-a and miraculously after some chicken nuggets and playtime she was good to go. our first adventure was a metro ride.
they were so excited to ride on a "train."
all except stoneface delaney.
she was not impressed.
see? not impressed at all.
frankie was so excited, but when we finally got going she was a little nervous.
addie loved it the whole time.
sadly, alexis and christian didn't want to come.
and since we went on a school day, i didn't make them. :(
we went to dc specifically to let the girls ride the train, go to the dinosaur museum (we've read books and frankie has been asking forever to go to the mus-e-um, and see the cherry blossoms)
well, addie has decided that she does not like dinosaurs.
they are bor-ing.
frankie, on the other hand, loved every minute of it.
happiness.
addie is fascinated with killing and death,
(should i be worried? i'm pretty sure that's all developmental...)
so i knew she would like this diorama, and she sure did.
she kept looking at it and asking over and over again who was killed and why.
"but why did they kill him?"
4-year-olds are pretty cute. :)
even laney liked it. :)
we looked all around and the girls ran around a little bit.
frankie totally got her dinosaur fix.
she also got a time out.
self imposed punishments are the best.
we went to a little preschool demonstration and wrote our ancient signatures.
then we headed outside and to the cherry blossoms.
matt's wearing one of the signature stamps around his neck.
good daddy.
most of the cherry blossoms were already past peak bloom.
there were a few pretty trees, but mostly we missed it.
next year!
we walked from the archives, to the museum, to the jefferson memorial, and from there we decided to make the big loop to check out the new (-ish) mlk memorial.
we ended up walking through the franklin delano rosevelt memorial, which we had never been to and was really cool.
we made it to the martin luther king memorial, which was also neat to see.
it ended up being kinda cold that day, and we didn't really plan too well for that.
the girls had each taken turns napping and matt and i covered them up with our coats.
so when laney woke up and was ready to run i put addie's sweater on her, since addie was laying in the stroller under our coats.

baby down!
baby back up!
this kid!
right about that time, frankie woke up too and had her second wind.
girl on a mission.
she loved the whole day.
she's also commandeered lexi's old pink phone and uses it to text and make her important calls.
sandwich, phone, who needs anything else?
everyone was in super silly mode on the way back home.
parents of the year, i know, but the girls switched seats a couple times and had a good old time on the metro. as you can see, the other travelers loved us!
we packed up and headed home around 6:30.
it was a long, good day in dc.
addie took a billion pictures on my phone on the way home, so here ya have one.
matt and i talked about how much we enjoy walking around such an amazing part of the country and we're going to make more of an effort to spend time up there.
we'll see how that goes!
also, i have a bucket list item to run a 10k (or something) on the national mall.
whoot, whoot!
